House on a bridge, Bath

Bath has two major waterways running through it; the river Avon and the Kennet & Avon canal. The walk will take in stretches of both.

The river scenes are ‘classic’ Bath with the Pulteney Bridge and weir featuring in many tourist snaps. However, more dedicated photographers linger with an ND filter for some long exposure images. There will be opportunity to shoot from both sides of the river and, if time allows, and there is some energy left in the tank, we can also take in the relatively new ‘wavey’ bridge over the river that is part of the Newark Works complex.

The canal is less well known to the casual visitor but offers a wide range of photographic opportunities; ornate bridges, a tunnel, a few locks, barges and even a house on a bridge over the canal!

The whole walk will be around 2.5 miles, probably with a lunch stop at the Holburne Museum café?

The walk will start and end near the railway station.

What Three Words: ///cooks.nerve.loudly

Train or bus is recommended if travelling from outside of Bath.

Nearest car park is Southgate underground, or the open air car park on Avon Street. However, if coming by car, the Park & Ride sites are recommended; car parking in Bath city centre is VERY expensive.

Accessibility

The footpaths are reasonably good but are not all wheelchair accessible due to steps and one stile; good walking shoes or boots are recommended.
