Whitstable Coastal Walk

Coastal
Walk Leader
Lester Cunningham
Saturday, September 16, 2023 - 12:00

Whitstable is on  the north coast of Kent and is famous for its oysters.

The coastal path starts at Tankerton and runs adjacent to the pebble beach, colourful beach huts, and harbour with fishing boats, yachts and a Thames barge. On the horizon you can see the wind turbine array, and the Maunsell Sea Forts; built during WW2 to help protect the UK. Along the way there are many bars and restaurants, and easy access to the bustling high street with many interesting shops.

The coastal walk has substantial paving, no special footwear is required.

Whitstable offers many photo opportunities, and interesting places to visit.

Walk Location

51.363869790625, 1.0421937704086

Walk Directions

Our meeting point will be at the Scoops Ice Cream Parlour in Tankerton (85 Tankerton Road, CT5 2AJ). Here you will be able to grab an ice cream or coffee.

Car parking in Whistable is not easy, which is why we are starting our walk in Tankerton. Some local streets, adjacent in the east, allow free parking. Please be aware of yellow lines, parking restrictions and avoid blocking driveways.

Parking free in: St. Anne's Road, Kingsdown Park, and Fitzroy Road etc.

If you are travelling by train to Whitstable, there is a designated foot path from the station to the beach. Please let me know if you will be travelling by train and your estimated time of arrival.

Accessibility

Mostly flat paved walkway with no obstacles. A short decline at the beginning of the walk, and a short incline on the return. Approx 20 minutes walk from Tankerton to Whitstable harbour, and a further 20 mins if venturing further into Whitstable..
