Road to Hell?

The walk is planned to take place on Wednesday 3 June and will be around three miles long, plus any wandering within the sites visited. It will start near the Bath Spa railway station and end at Bath Abbey. Lunch will be in a pub/deli/café (not included in the TWT fee).

Weeping Angel

We will take in two cemeteries that are not visited by many tourists, or photographers. They are both disused, and are somewhat overgrown, but with lots of opportunity for light to stream in, making for some interesting compositions. Some images taken from reconnaissance can be seen here: TWT Bath Sites of Religious Significance Mini-Zine

On the walk between the two cemeteries we will pass by the church of St Thomas à Becket, which dates from 1490. There will also be an option to visit a third cemetery with its own chapel dedicated to St John the Evangelist, which is much less chaotic.

After lunch, we will proceed to Bath Abbey for a different kind of religious site; there has been a place of Christian worship here for over 1000 years. Please note, there is an entrance charge of £9, although there is no charge for holders of B&NES Discovery Cards and residents of BA1 & BA2 postcodes.

There are suitable photo opportunities on the outside of the building, should you not wish to enter the Abbey.

For those with a head for heights, Tower Tours are available for you to book.

Just to be 100% clear, Abbey tours and fees are not included in the TWT fee. See here for more info: https://www.bathabbey.org/visiting/
