The Mansfield Traquair Centre in Edinburgh, known as "Edinburgh's Sistine Chapel," was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson as a Catholic Apostolic Church, and completed in 1885–1895. It is renowned for its stunning, immersive murals painted by Arts and Crafts artist Phoebe Anna Traquair in the 1890s. The building was saved from dereliction by a trust in the 1990s and is now a premier venue. The building is recognised as a masterpiece of late Victorian art and architecture.
Please note that that is a private tour. There will be an introductory talk at the start to give us more background and context to the centre and the murals. There will be a chance to ask any questions. There is a charge of £5 each which will go exclusively towards the conservation of the murals and the maintenance of the building.
The visit should take us up to lunchtime and there are several cafes and sandwich shops nearby. There are also several other churches in the area if you wish to extend your visit.
