We have permission to take photographs inside St Machars Cathedral (1520) and Kings College Chapel (1509) on the proviso that we do not disrupt any religious services. Both buildings have beautiful interiors and are actively used for religious services and we must at all times respect that. We will meet outside St Machars Cathedral at 1100 on a date to be notified [provisionally 28th May 2026] (we will need to confirm this closer to the event of the walk to ensure that we do not disrupt any service). After approximately one hour, we will break for lunch at one of the cafes nearby and then walk down to Kings College Chapel to view the interior and exterior. The walk between the two buildings will be maximally one mile. Both buildings have interesting histories and have retained beautiful features despite conversion from catholic churches to protestant during the reformation.
Note that tripods are not recommended in either location as they present a significant trip hazard. Monopods may be OK as long as they are not left where they can trip others. However, attendees are advised to adjust their ISO settings to allow indoor photography. Given that the walk is in late May, I hope that the light penetration into the two churches will not present a problem.
St Machars Cathedral and Kings College Chapel
Meet at the front of St Machars Cathedral at 1100. Date to be confirmed one week ahead of the meeting.
There is limited car parking in the area so it is probably best to park in the adjacent Seaton Park.
