Christchurch Priory is larger than several English Cathedrals and has been established since 1093 and avoided the destruction of monasteries by Henry VIII in 1539. There are many other Spiritual sites in the priory grounds.
Christchurch Priory - a gift from the Normans.
Christchurch Priory is marked on every map printed of the area, very easy to find. There is plenty of car parking adjacent to the Priory. We will meet in the Priory Cafe to enjoy their coffee and cake! The ground is very level, access to the Tower may be possible - but only if you are fit to climb very narrow winding stairs. The Priory is located beside two rivers so there are plenty of ducks and swans if you fancy a variety.
There are level, mainly tarmac, paths in and around the Priory, accessible to buggies and walking frames. There are many grave ledgers on the floor inside the Priory so Tripods are not permitted. The Christchurch History Society archive and the Priory Museum are accessed using a very steep and narrow staircases that are not easy to use!
We will meet for cofffee in the Priory Cafe prior to starting the walk.
