The advantage of joining in with the TWT project is that you go to places which you might not otherwise visit. Logan Botanic Garden is quite a long way from me, so not suitable for a routine visit. Going with the TWT group meant sharing transport and then meeting up with some friendly and helpful people there. I had the offer of a lens swap and got several good ideas from my fellow photographers. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and found it stimulated new ideas and possible shots that I would not have thought of on my own. Plus the cafe was excellent, always a bonus.
The Talk-Walk-Talk initiative has been, and continues to be, a fantastic way of bringing members, and prospective members, across the whole country together. Like most good ideas, the concept is simple. More importantly, it works seamlessly in execution too. It is easy for members and non-members alike to join in; it forges local relationships and at the same time brings a sense of unity across the RPS as a whole. This has to be the way forward for demonstrating value to our members and for recruiting new members. I believe that SIGs working together on national, and international, projects is far more effective than many of the Regions can ever hope to be on their own. Well done to the T-W-T team for showing how it should work.
It’s been great fun doing all these TWT’s over the past 18 months or so. Can’t remember if that’s four or five, but I’ve made a bunch of new photo friends and had a great time doing so. Whoever thought up the TWT idea was inspired. As my mate Steve says, “Long Live TWT!”
TWT has made me think more deeply about Parks and Gardens as subjects, get out there and make work in good company and learn from the wide variety of images produced collectively by the group.
