An example of Victorian heritage flanked by modest more recent pieces

Take a walk through the heart of the Jewellery Quarter to look at the street patterns and the huge number of listed buildings.  Explore the contemporary insertions (including a Banksy) through the eyes of ex-resident, architect and photographer and choose to compose with your camera; the opportunities are multitudinous.

The variety will include catacombs, Victorian and Georgian delights and a strong examples of intersecting rail and canal infrastructure. There are independent coffee shops along the way, if the need is there. We will complete the walk at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artist's gallery for the final day of the photography exhibition 'The Black Country: Photographs by Phil Loach 1970s – 90s'

The approximate time to complete the walk will be 2-2.5 hours.

Walk Location

52.489452770688, -1.91293005

Walk Directions

We will meet on the street immediately outside the Jewellery Quarter Station on Vyse Street - the postcode is B18 6LE.  The station serves both rail and metro.  There is on-street and multi-storey car parking a short stride away.

Accessibility

The walk is primarily on-street, thus accessible.  The catacombs access involves relatively steep slopes in a cemetery.  The canal is accessed via a series of steel steps.  Both catacombs and canal can be viewed from above with relative ease if access is an issue for any attendees.
