Walking along Cleethorpes Prom

The plan is to have a fun day out with our cameras and like-minded photographers to look at different ways of photographing 'architecture and the the Built Environment'.

All creative approaches are welcomed from Ansel Adams early style of pictorialism to the New Topographics approach and beyond.

The date of the walk has been chosen to hopefully coincide with when the tide is in at Cleethorpes, at the time when we are there.

A 'Master Plan' created by Wayne Hemmingway MBE in 2022, and £18.4m granted to the area by the Govt. Levelling up Fund in 2023 promises exciting things ahead for the seaside town of Cleethorpes in North Lincolnshire, and the plan for the RPS East Midlands Regions Day with the Architecture and Built Environment at the Seaside is to create a series of photographic projects about how it looks now.

Number Three Bus to Cleethorpes

The RPS East MIdlands Region Plan

Our day starts at 9.30am/10am at the Grimsby Wetherpoons (Yarborough Hotel) opposite the Grimsby Railway Station (click here for what3words map)

We will then catch the Number 3 bus to Cleethorpes. The bus will then take us down Freeman Street, where we will stop off to take some photographs. Catching the next Number 3 bus we will travel along the A180 to the Cleethorpe Pier.

After creating a series of photographic projects around the Cleethorpes Gardens and Alexandra Road focussed on the architecture and built environment we will head to the Cleethorpes Railway Station to catch the train back to Grimsby Station.

(Please note: Originally we had planned to start at Asda / Grimsby Dock Station)

Cleethorpes Trains

In future years the photographic projects we have produced will become 'visual time capsules before the master plan'. The 'photo-walk' is led by Stewart Wall, who in 2018 created a similar project in Freeman Street that he titled '‘The Kasbar to Central Hall'.

In case of really heavy rain there is an alternative plan, but otherwise please wear clothing suitable for a winter’s day at the seaside. There will be some walking, but nothing demanding. There will be ample opportunities to take interesting images of timeless architecture and built environments and guidance on how to develop photographic projects.

Please Note: Walk Attendees will need to cover their own costs for parking /bus / train which should come to approx £10 plus any meals and drinks on the day.
