Seaton (Devon) & Beer

Coastal
Walk Leader
Lois Wakeman
Saturday, September 16, 2023 - 10:00

A walk from Seaton along the cliffs to Beer, returning on the pebbly beach if the tide/weather allows and you feel up to it (otherwise, retrace our steps, get the bus at 14.00, or follow the quiet road back to Seaton). About 6-7km in total. Sensible walking footwear advised. This part of the Jurassic coast has both red sandstone and white chalk cliffs, and some distant views along the coast. Beer is a very picturesque fishing village which still has a few boats drawn up on the beach plus fishing paraphernalia, and there are beach huts. I suggest we either picnic here or can visit one of the pubs or cafés for lunch. At the end of the walk we can do a short detour to visit Axmouth Harbour, another nautical location. (Birdwatchers may wish to finish the day with a visit to the nearby wetlands nature reserve.)

Accessibility

This walk will involve at least some walking on pebbles, and some ups and downs. I wouldn't say it was strenuous but you may find parts challenging if you have breathing problems. It takes about 30 minutes to get from the car park to the end of the beach at Seaton Hole and another 30 to get to Beer along the clifftop.
