Secret Dorset, Moonfleet Revisited

To explore the unique coastal landscape of the Fleet Lagoon. The stretch of water behind the famous Chesil Beach. The inspiration behind Meade Faulkner's children's classic Moonfleet. The geology of the area is interesting and includes areas of Oxford Clay. Stout walking boots are recommended. paths are uneven in places and unsuitable for wheelchairs. Apart from the unique landscape there are 2 areas used by local fishermen and the remains of the old church engulfed by the Great Flood early in the 19trh Century

Walk Directions

The carpark Holy Trinity Church Fleet Fleet Lane DT3 4EE donation to church funds required. Fleet lane is accessed from the roundabout on the A371 to the West of Chickerell.

Accessibility

The walk is suitable for all ages and abilities and the length can be varied from 3 - 10 km. The paths are reasonably flat, no steep hills but are uneven and unsuitable for wheelchairs. They can be muddy in places after long periods of rain
