An 11km (7 mile) walk from the Seven Sisters Country Park along the Cuckmere river. The Cuckmere is unique in Sussex as the only river which has not been industrialised at the mouth.
Initially we will head south towards the sea to view the meanders, the old river course which have now been bypassed by an artificial cut created in 1846 to prevent flooding upstream.
We will then head north along the river bank past the White Horse chalk figure to the footbridge at Litlington. After a brief rest stop we will then head back on the other river bank.

I have picked a day when the high tide is around 13.00 which will hopefully reduce the amount of mud visible at the edges of the river, perhaps making it slightly more photogenic!
Along the walk we will also find some drainage ditches which are more abundant with life than the main river.
I would recommend walking boots and appropriate clothing as the path is likely to be muddy. The walk would normally take approx 3 hours but I am suggesting we allow a good 5 hours to give time for photography and refreshment stops at the start and mid-point. Although the pub does serve food we will only stop for a quick drink so I would recommend bringing a picnic lunch or buying a sandwich at the start of the walk.

The walk will start from the Seven Sisters County Park at Exceat, near Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 4AD. There are two car parks (North and South) on either side of the road, you can use either. The cost for cars for over 4 hours is £7 (additional charges apply to minibuses and motorhomes). The machines take cards and coins but not notes or you can pay using the RinGo app, location 40750.
The Park is well served by the 12, 12A and 12X Coaster service between Brighton/Seaford/Eastbourne. All buses stop at the Park entrance and connect with mainline railway stations at Seaford, Brighton and Eastbourne with connecting services to London.
Meet at 10.30 in the courtyard next to the visitor centre by the Grab and Go take away (Hot and Cold drinks and sandwiches available). There are also toilets close by.
After brief introductions and time for a quick drink we will head south past the meanders and then head north along the path by the side of the river to the Exceat Bridge and then continue up the river to the footbridge at Litlington - only a short distance from the river here is The Plough and Harrow pub where I propose a quick stop for a comfort break/chat/drink before making our way back on the opposite bank of the river.
The walk is around 11km (7 miles) and is largely flat (total ascent is circa 70m) but it is likely to be muddy and does involve some stiles. The route can be viewed here.
