An informal walk around Buckfast Abbey and its gardens. The site sits beside the River Dart and combines Gothic architecture and formal gardens making it an excellent location for a variety of photography - architecture, gardens, nature, creative. The lavender should be in flower so there may be opportunities for Bees and Butterflies amongst the blooms. The interior of the Abbey is filled with natural light and has a Romanesque - inspired style, with beautiful stained glass.
The site is expected to get busy and tripods are not recommended, although permitted in the grounds, the paths around the formal gardens are narrower and you could block other visitors from enjoying the experience.
The main site is accessible with disabled facilities, there are plenty of resting places and parking and access are free. Comfortable footwear around the grounds recommended. You can walk as much as you like or sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
The Abbey is closed at certain times of the day for prayers with sung mass Monday to Friday at 12.05 when Abbey closed to general visitors. Photography in the Abbey is permitted. We are expected and we will announce our arrival to the Visitor Experience Stewards in the Church together-they will advise us on photographs/equipment acceptable on the day. Buckfast Abbey is delighted to have been chosen as part of the TWT.
We will meet at 12.30 pm in the Grange Restaurant, a table will be booked in my name. Snacks and meals available.
