Path through woodland's autumn colours

This splendid and somewhat challenging walk is at Hardcastle Crags, a wooded valley owned by the National Trust, near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. The 4-mile route is circular, with a 1 mile long descent and equally long ascent, both over uneven ground. There are also some wet, slippery, rocky sections and muddy bits! Please note that moderately good fitness and mobility are essential as are good walking boots. The autumn colours of the mixed woodland are usually excellent. In addition, we will pass a picturesque mill and twice cross bridges over a strong flowing river. There are mosses and ferns in abundance. The final stage includes a climb up about 50 uneven stone steps and we conclude with an easy level half mile on a quiet road, back to the car park. There are no facilities on the walk so you will need to bring your own refreshments. The walk starts at 10.30am and we should conclude at around 3pm. It can be cold in the valley so please bear this in mind when deciding on clothing.
