It' s a lovely, if sometimes muddy wood, and can have some interesting fungi during the autumn, weather depending. It also normally has good autumn colour and is good for shapes and patterns.
It isn't a vast forest, but still big enough to keep us going for a good session. I've never know it to be crowded, it's a peaceful place.

It has various walks and trail which we can explore, either as a group or separately.. There are maps at various points. The main walk goes into the wood from the road and then goes in a circular walk through it.
As previously said it can be muddy, so wellies are a must.
There are 2 places to park, I prefer to park in the designated parking area on Tey Road just south of Earls Colne. The postcode for the wood is CO6 2LE. The best way to get there is via the main road out of Earls Colne towards Coggeshall road, the B1024. Just past Olivers Plants there is a right hand turn called America Road. Take this turn and follow the road to the end then turn right. The parking place is a short distance from this on the right. There is another route of of Earls Colne, but it's very narrow and does flood easily, so I recommend this route..
