The walk will explore a quiet stretch of the Oxford Canal and, if there is time and inclination, the adjacent Kirtlington Quarry (now a nature reserve).
The towpath is between the canal and the River Cherwell and has some old canal infrastructure. The banks are quite overgrown so there is the opportunity of views over the water and of trees and other plants next to the water. The quarry stopped working in the first part of the last century and has been an SSSI since 1968 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirtlington_Quarry)
The paths are relatively sound but good walking shoes or lightweight boots would be ideal, particularly in wet weather. The towpath is flat but there is an incline to reach the quarry. The walk can be as long or as short as individuals want as the parking is next to the canal and the route is out-and-back.

We will meet at Pigeons Lock (gridref SP 48734 19383, Postcode OX5 3HW). There is free parking adjacent to the canal at Pigeons Lock which can be reached by going down Mill Lane from Kirtlington. Do not approach from the other side as the road does not reach the canal. The last half-mile is down a track.
There are no refreshments or toilets at the lock or on the walk. The nearest facilities are in Kirtlington (The Oxford Arms)
