Poole Quay & Surrounding Area

Architecture and Built Environment
Walk Leader
Trevor Pogson LRPS
Sunday, March 3, 2024 - 14:00
Capacity
10

This will be walk around the quay at Poole in Dorset as well as the surrounding area.

The Quay area has  a number of old streets and historic buildings as well as modern architecture - such as the old customs house, modern apartments and 1960's car parks, there is also the RNLI HQ building nearby as well as the Poole lifting bridge.

Even in poor weather there are plenty of photographic opportunities, wet streets, puddles and buildings can make for interesting compositions.

This walk will take place entirely outside, there are no plans to go into any buildings but if you wish, you can of course do so where possible.

Walk Location

Poole Quay & Surrounding Area

Walk Directions

We will meet under the covered area by the roundabout shown on the map - just a 5 minute walk down from the Quay visitors car park on Strand Street (pay on departure - requires cash or a credit card)

I am planning for the meeting and walk to have a duration of 4 hours but again due to the nature of the location this can be extended or reduced  by each photographer as they wish - all I would ask is that if you are going to leave early or stay later that you let me know so that I won't be expecting you back at the starting point at 1800hrs.

Sunset will be about 1800 hrs. and if the conditions are in our favour then there may be the opportunity for some nice sunset shots in the area.

Parking:  Strand Street, BH15 1SB (Google map)
Spaces: 539 (16 disabled) – parking spaces are a bit tight!
For more info see https://www.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/Parking/

Accessibility

As the walk is mainly on flat pavements and streets, ordinary walking shoes will be OK. I would suggest bringing a coat as it can get windy along the quay and of course dress accordingly for the weather on the day - hopefully sowesters will not be required!

Due to the nature of the location, each photographer can decide how far and how long they wish the walk to be.
