The venue has been chosen to provide an opportunity to combine dawn light with one of the highest tides in October. Sunrise will be 7:10 am and high tide will be 7:45 am. In certain conditions high tide at Sandsend can be quite dramatic as the waves crash into the sea wall. As the tide recedes wooden groynes on the beach are revealed which provides the opportunity for images of waves lapping around the groynes.
As the tide recedes further, coastal images with views towards Whitby will be possible offering potential for ICM images or detail pebble and shell photography.
For attendees willing to climb a short series of steps and walk about half a mile along a good level path there is a slightly elevated viewpoint. However, most photography will be from the beach which stretches about 3 miles to Whitby for those who want to walk the full distance.
Wellingtons will be required to get the best out this location.
