Walk 10.30 to 15.00 on Tuesday 30 September.
This is a fantastic walk up the River Avon on a fully tarmac path right up to the base of the dam for Avon Reservoir on Dartmoor. Distance is around 2 miles on a tarmac track and slightly uphill in places, but a really easy walk. Plenty of places to get shots of the river as it tumbles over well worn rocks and dances beneath trees.

At the base of the dam it is possible to scramble up a steep loose path area for a full view of the Reservoir.

At the Avon Dam car park You will find a loo block (vital) and there is a snack van that visits on occasions but it wasn't there when I visited. Please bring a picnic to eat along the river walk, where there are occasional tables.

There is a parking charge - this is £4 cash - there is Ringo but there was no internet signal when I visited.
There are two access roads to Avon Reservoir car park. The better route as indicated on this little map.

Avon River and Reservoir (Dartmoor)
From the car park, where we will all meet together by 10.30, there is a pathway past the loo block, or via the road and the main gateway if you are in a mobility scooter, taking you on to the main tarmac path. There is a cattle grid and gate half way up, but the gate can be opened to facilitate the mobility scooters.
You could do this walk in ordinary flat shoes, but if you want to scramble over rocks or up the steep very rough track to get to the reservoir, then hiking boots are recommended.
Fully accessible with the exception of the final scrabble up the steep rough path to the reservoir.
