A walk through Glasgow's industrial heritage along the banks of the River Kelvin - Glasgow's ither river which too often plays second fiddle to the Clyde. We'll start at the Botanic Gardens and make our way down via the Kelvin Walkway to Kelvinbridge Subway, then through Kelvingrove, past the Museum and Art Gallery, the Bishop Mill building and on to our end point – the modern Riverside Museum and the new bridge.
The distance covered is in the region of 3.5miles and is on solid footpath. Sturdy walking shoes or boots are advised.
A major photo opportunity comes from the river and river banks, and hopefully we may even have some decent autumn foliage. The area hosts an abundance of wildlife and it is not uncommon to spot a heron or even catch a quick glimpse of a kingfisher speeding by. And of course there are usually more squirrels than you can shake a stick at. There are, as indicated above, several buildings of interest along the river as well as some remnants of our industrial past. More modern aspects of urban life along the river include a wealth of statues and, if it your thing, some very colour street art.
