Sculpture: Searcher

Set amongst mixed woodland including large oak trees and a bracken understorey The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail winds through the forest.

This walk is approximately 5km (3.1miles) and will follow part of the sculpture trail.

Be aware, wild boar reside in the forest and may appear suddenly onto the path.

There is a map of the Sculpture Trail available online giving the what3words locations of the sculptures. This map can also be purchased for £1 at Beechenhurst Cafe, Speech House Road, Broadwell Coleford GL16 7EG.

What3Words: ///offers.issues.magnitude This is where we will meet and is near the start of the trail. Parking is pay and display and there are public toilets there.

The Walk: Commencing along "Alternative Start' on the map next to GoApe, NOT the signed 'Entrance to the Sculpture Trail'. We will visit sculptures 1,2.3,4.5 and 6 then follow the unmarked track to 10 and 11.

Sculpture: Cathedral

On an unmarked track we make our way to sculpture 14 and then follow the Sculpture Trail from 14 to 18 before returning to 1 and retracing our steps back along the "alternative start' to return to Beechenhurst Lodge by 3pm where refreshments may be purchased. The Cafe closes at 4pm.

You may wish to bring a packed lunch with you.

Accessibility

The trail has Sculpture: Cone and Vesselmainly wide dirt and gravel paths with a variety of sculptures placed in the woodland, most are visible from the main track. Some paths leading off the main track to the sculptures may be muddy. There are some moderate uphill and downhill sections. These are marked on the trail map. Wear stout footwear and clothing appropriate for the prevailing weather. Ensure that your camera is protected from the weather conditions of the day. There is limited phone signal on the trail.
