The gardens are overlooked by the castle , the back view of which is only marginally less impressive than the front (which you may wish to stop and snap on your way up the long drive!)

The castle gardens contain a mixture of woodland and formal gardens, with opportunities for flower, garden architecture (there is a 100 year old wooden summer house, as well as views of the castle itself), insect, abstract, people in gardens etc etc. There is an adventure playground next to the car park, but that is soon left behind wandering amongst the trees and bushes.

At the entrance there is a cafe / take away (offering toasties or sandwiches), so you could get lunch there or bring a packed lunch. The main castle cafe will not be open on the day we visit.
Depending upon the weather we will agree a spot to meet for lunch.
There is a charge for entry but we will qualify for a group discount.
Please bring £6.00.

Drumlanrig Castle is signposted from the A76, follow the castle driveway to the castle, at the castle entrance turn left to the adventure playground car park. We will meet in this car park at 10.00am sharp.
Once inside the gardens we will wander where we choose, but meet up again for lunch.
Inside the gardens there is a variety of paths, they are not paved, but many are flat and not very rough. To access some areas there are short steep and rough paths or stairs.
